Like a lot of people on the internet, I loved the movie Encanto by Walt Disney Animation Studios. And out of all the characters, I think that Antonio has by far the coolest gift. I was so jealous of his power of being able to talk to animals and his super amazing room while watching the film for the first time. What I would have given to have had that gift and room as a kid!! But this made me think how cool it would be if the movie was set in prehistoric Colombia!
During the last ice age, South America had a lot more megafauna than today and Colombia would have resembled an African safari, with herds of wild horses and gomphotheres (prehistoric relatives of elephants) roaming the land while being hunted by sabretooth cats and packs of dire wolves. And humans briefly coexisted with all these animals before they went extinct, so Encanto's plot could have still taken place back then (though all the human characters would have to be stone age hunter gatherers instead of 19th century Colombians). Just imagine how awesome Antonio's gift would have been back then.
List of animals from top left to bottom right: Cuvieronius hyodon (extinct), giant ground sloth (Eremotherium sp., extinct), Mixotoxodon larensis (extinct), giant capybara (Neochoerus sp., extinct), South American tapir (not extinct), sabretooth cat (Smilodon populator, extinct), toucan (not extinct), dire wolf (Aenocyon dirus, extinct), and the South American horse (Equus neogeus, extinct).
